In 2010 I had a live in boyfriend that was not only a friend from school he was also a social butterfly. He always wanted people around, which wasn’t so bad. I really didn’t invite him to move in, he came for vacation and never left. He ended up throwing a block party and there were probably about 100 people there. It was on my birthday but he didn’t tell anyone that it was my birthday. One of his friends that he invited was my now husband who was also an old school friend that I ran around with all the time but never really got to know him. He found out it was my birthday and he felt so bad he didn’t bring a present he did all the dishes from the party and cleaned my kitchen. What a wonderful gift.
He started coming over more often and we got a chance to talk because there were a lot of people there every night. One night I had a batch of just out of the oven peanut butter cookies and he ate just about the whole pan. From then on I made fresh cookies every night I knew he was coming over. I would even ask the live in ” Is Jason coming over? He’s my favorite person to hang out with” the live in didn’t get it.
Just about every night he would come over and either eat or take the cookies and I never changed from those peanut butter cookies. The live in finally left and my now husband and I spent our first date in the garage under the truck that suddenly had a leak. I put his coveralls on over my dress clothes and we fixed it together. The entire time I kept thinking is he going to kiss me and come to find out he was thinking the same thing (This was before the song) A few months later we heard the song and made it ours. When it comes on we drop what we are doing and dance to it. We married in 2011
I later learned that he hates peanut butter but said those were the best cookie he ever had. Now I make him Oatmeal Raisin.
I know this is a variation of an earlier post but it makes me happy.
Thanks to the daily inspiration
Love this story, and how it connects to both this and an earlier prompt. What a creep your live-in was not to do the dishes and clean-up, but how fortunate you and your to-be-partner were that he didn’t. This story has a bit of an O.Henry twist to it. Loved your post and will be following you as soon as I find the spot that enables me to do so! Judy
Thank you so much for the comment. I know I talk about my new husband to much but we have know each other 35 years and have only been together about 4. I just can’t stop thinking there is a reason we kept getting so close and not connecting.
This is the best story of getting together! And he doesn’t even like peanut butter cookies? You have got yourself a keeper! Congratulations to the both of you.
Thank you so much I love the story too. I know everyone has their own fairytale but mine is my favorite.
